The OHS marching band went on their annual fall trip to the Bands of America Louisville Championship in Lousiville, Kentucky on September 21-23. They came home with some unanticipated results.
They were one of 18 bands fighting for the top ten spots to make finals. “We knew that seven bands were already good enough to make it into finals so that left only three spots for us,” said Veronica Wilson (12).
After having their best performance yet, the OHS band had high hopes to make it into finals. When it was time to announce the placements and scores, the view of the band changed. They placed 13th with a score of 61.55, only a point and a half behind the 10th place band and the last one to make it into finals.
“We were hoping to make finals, but we are happy with our run through of the show,” said drum major Drew Collins (11).
The band took a lot away from the competition and are using the judges comments to improve their music, marching, and performance of the show for their next competition on October 6.
