OHS claws their way to state

OHS claws their way to state

This past weekend the OHS speech and debate team had MSHSAA districts at Parkway South High School. Two teams, and one solo student, from OHS made it to state.

The MSHSAA districts are the state qualifying districts for the St. Louis area. Students who made it to state include Sean Kleffner (11) and Emma Sona (10) in Policy, Olivia Weigl (11) and Aron Johannsson (11) in Public, and Katie Kohler in Poetry.

Expectations for the MSHSAA districts were not set too high, but not only were they met, but also exceeded.

“I’m very pleased, we’ve never had five people qualify for state. The most we’ve had in my twelve years is three,” Mr. Ed Taylor, English teacher and Speech and Debate coach, said.

Emma Sonna had mixed feelings about attending state.

“I’m excited, usually people don’t make it until their senior year. I’m terrified.” Sonna said.

State is on April 20th at Mizzou.
