On Saturday, May 4, the OHS Academic Quiz Bowl team went to the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) to compete in MSHSAA state competition. This is the first time the team has gone to state in the four years that OHS quiz bowl has been in existence.
The competition consisted of morning preliminary rounds, semi-finals, and finals in the afternoon. The quiz bowl team went 2-1 in preliminaries granting them a break to semi-finals.
In semi-finals, the team played two rounds against Ladue and Parkway West. Although they lost both rounds they finished fourth in the state for class four. Ladue won first place overall.
The team then went to an awards round where Michael Menkhus (11) recieved for being the third top scorer in the state.
“Four our first year at state we did really well. Everyone contributed and had a lot of knowledge,” said Menkhus.
