National Spirit Week OHS style

This past week, from October 7th-11th, was National School Spirit Week! This spirit week was put on by the cheerleaders of many schools around the nation. Many students at OHS get annoyed with the fact that we have two spirit weeks so close together, since homecoming spirit week was only two weeks ago.

Leadership student Lexi Luzynski(12) said, “You can definitely see a difference in the level of participation between the two weeks with National School Spirit Week being lower than homecoming”.

What many people don’t understand is that this past spirit week was nationwide, and in some eyes was more important than homecoming spirit week. National School Spirit Week was the kickoff to a major community service project that will be carried out by Student Council and The Leadership class.

Amy Learn(Leadership teacher) discussed how she thought it would nice if the two spirit weeks were combined, “I love that this week kicked off the community service project going through November. It would be really cool if both homecoming spirit week and National School Spirit week could be combined, and we could have one big launching week for community service, and be able to get the community behind us”.

All service work completed by Oakville High School from October to November will benefit Feed My People, Fisher House, and Operation Never Forgotten.

The themes for spirit week included:

Monday- Nerd Day

Tuesday- Tacky Tourist Tuesday

Wednesday- Camo Day

Thursday- Throwback Thursday to Middle School

Friday- Pink Out(everyone wears pink to support breast cancer)
