The girls golf team is expanding this season.

In past years, the team has always had low numbers and only one team. There are 12 players and a varsity and junior-varsity team this year.

With two returning players, Paige Tustinowski (12) and Bethany Hagan (12), there are 10 new faces on the team. Kayla FitzWilliam (12), Lucy Lickteig (11), Lillian Jackson (10), Grace Boyer (10), Allyson Moss (10), Ella Welch (10), Marissa Rowley (9), Grace Lickteig (9), and Anamaria Wilson (9).

“I like having a lot of girls on the team because it brings a lot of exposure to the sport,” said Coach Emily Baker.

With a team with the majority of underclassmen, Coach Baker decided to split the team into varsity and JV.

“I think since most of them are younger that they will hopefully get better and improve as the years go on and they can get the word out that you don’t have to be the greatest golfer to go out for the team to play and compete.”

The varsity team opened their season on Sept. 3 with a loss against Notre Dame. they’ll next go in action Thursday, Sept. 5 against Eureka and Seckman.
