”Student government is one of the ways that students can get involved and take charge at school. On April 14, student elections took place, one of which being the student body election. Three students, Sydney Wideman (11), Aseya Kadymova (11) and Molly Pfaff (11), are running for the position of Student Body President.
“…I want to be able to be somebody who can represent everybody and I want to be somebody that anybody can come to. I want to make the school and like our high school experience a better experience overall. I want to be somebody that people can look towards if they ever need anything,” Kadymova said.
These candidates all have passion and a reason for wanting to hold this position at school and have had to put in the work leading up to the election due to the many steps it takes to be able to run.
“You have to submit an application, write a speech, get peer evaluations, you get about 10 of those, and then all of your teachers need to submit an evaluation and you have to give your speech in front of every single class,” Wideman said.
All of these students are familiar with the process of running for student government because of their previous involvement. Their past experiences have also given them a reason to want to run again for an even larger position.
“[I liked] seeing everybody and being able to have a voice in student government and how things are going about because we are in charge of different events and stuff, so I love being a part of that process and seeing it through, making sure that it went well,” Kadymova said.
Once one of these students has been elected, their responsibilities would include organizing Student Council meetings, making sure committees are getting things done and acting as a facilitator between the students and the faculty.
“I think a good Student Body President is someone who takes everyones opinions into account to make sure that everyone is getting what they want and everyone is happy,” Pfaff said.
Even though being the Student Body President comes with large responsibilities, there are also fun things that they get to do and enjoy while in their position.
“I am most excited for coming up with new events to make it more fun and events that everyone can enjoy,” Pfaff said.
There is so much to be excited about when it comes to running for Student Body President, and these three students have much to look forward to.
“I’m just excited to make an impact on the younger generations,” Wideman said. “…I love my underclassmen.
