OHS hosted its first football jamboree at Rodger Estes Stadium on Friday August 19. The OHS varsity football team tied twice, against Hazlewood East and Vianney, and lost to Summit by one score on the last play.
“Winning is not important. This game served as an evaluation,” OHS head coach Arlee Conners said.
Overall, the OHS football team did fairly well, scoring twice on East and once on Vianney. Every touchdown was a pass play which is different from last year’s running assault. Zeth Fritz (12), tight end, and Jaron Henderson (12), wide receiver, led the offense and scored on each team multiple times.
“We ran pretty good, but we need to work on our pass protection,” Conners said.
Conners has high expectations for this year’s team and believes that they have potential to do well as some of last year’s team has matured more and can better contribute.
“I think our team is very good this year, considering we have had time to reconstruct a team with experienced players who share chemistry on and off the field, and hopefully we can be successful this season,” Fritz said.
