After an 11-2 loss to Eureka on August 31, the OHS Varsity softball team once again stepped up their game, winning against Lindbergh on Sept. 1with a score of 17-7.
Coming off of a winning season last year, winning the State Championship title, Coach Rich Sturm hopes that the team will continue to improve in every aspect of the game.
“We’re working on improving everywhere, in every facet of the game,” Sturm said. “When districts start in six-seven weeks, we want to be playing the best softball we possibly can.”
With nine returning players and five new girls, the team is a mixture of old and new. Supporters can look to players like outfielder Lauren Fussell (12) and second baseman Baeley Reed (11), who both started their third season of Varsity softball this year. Outfielder Rachel McNamara(11) and third baseman Adrianna Wegmann (10) have also proven themselves to be valuable to the team this season.
Though the team is still in the beginning stages, they seem to have a promising year ahead of them with a overall record of 6-3 so far. The Tigers lost to Lafayette last night 12-3. Fans can look for them on the field tonight at OHS at 4:15 against Seckman.
