Two years ago, Oakville’s Ice Hockey team won the Wickenheiser Cup. Last year the team qualified for the Challenge Cup but lost in the second round. This year, according to players and coaches, the bar is set even higher.
“Our goal is to win the Challenge Cup,” forward Nick Marcus (12) said.
The team is optimistic because of several key players on the squad. Senior leaders include defenseman Ryan Basgall (12) and foward Tommy Heinzman (12) who is the captain of the team. With Zach Jost (11) in goal, the team has a nice combo of underclassman and upperclassman according to Mick O’Halloran, the head coach of the JV development team.
Fans will get a sneak peak of the team at their Black and Gold game on Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9:15 to 11:30 p.m. at South County Ice Rink at Kennedy Recreational Complex. It is an intersquad matchup with the varsity team.
“We can’t wait to get back on the ice,” Jost said.
