On Saturday Nov. 12, the OHS varsity soccer team defeated Frances Howell 1-0. The OHS soccer team will be playing in the state quarter finals on Friday in Kansas City.
“We’re moving onto Kansas City,” varsity head coach Dave Robben said. “With that said, Howell Central was all we could handle.”
The game was close; however, the Tigers pressured the ball and in the fifteenth minute Pat McInerney (12) scored.
“Pat’s goal came at the right moment after extensive pressure,” said Robben. “He chased a ball down from Dieckman and guarded off four or five defenders.”
Alex Dieckmann (11) and Kyle Filiput (11) also played well. Dieckmann, who generally plays an offensive midfield position, was forced to do a lot of chasing and pulled back more defensively.
The Tigers will be playing Friday Nov. 18 in the semifinals at Kansas City. Win or lose the Tigers will be playing Saturday Nov. 19 for either first or third place.
