The OHS ice hockey team has been impressive lately going 11-4 and ranking fourth among large schools. One of those wins was against powerhouse Francis Howell North who is 10-4 this season in which OHS won 7-1 on Jan. 2.
“That was a big win. They were a really good team and we took it to them.” Defenseman Ryan Basgall (12) said.
Along with Basgall, captain Tommy Heinzman (12) and foward Brendan Nichting (11) have propelled the Tigers toward victory this season. Heinzman is leading the team in goals with 15 and in points with 26 while Nichting has 16 points, which is third on the team.
Disciplined defense has contributed to the bulk of the Tigers success thus far.
“Not just the defenseman, but the fowards too have been shutting down the other team’s offense,” assistant coach Mick O’Halloran said.
O’Halloran also stated that fans should come out to support because there is an excitement in the air and that playoffs are around the corner.
OHS will be competing in the Winter Classic, an outdoor game vs. Marquette to be held at Clayton Shaw Park on Jan. 21, at 5:30 pm.
