Even though basketball has had a disappointing season so far with a record of 2-13, Ervin Sarajlic (10) has been a consistent scorer all season.
OHS went 0-3 in the tournament at Belleville East last week, but Sarajlic did everything he could to help the team. Sarajlic had two steals along with 11 points in a losing effort to Belleville East on Jan. 17. He then put up 19 points in a game against Belleville West on Jan. 20 with the Tigers losing 63-53. To end the week, Sarajlic scored 18 points and was a perfect 7-7 in free throw attempts against third ranked Collinsville on Jan. 21. His efforts weren’t enough to put the Tigers over the top ranked Kahoks and the Tigers lost, 56-53. He is second on the team averaging 11.6 points per game and leads the team in steals with 20.
“He had a phenomenol tournament at Belleville East,” head coach Nick Traxler said. “He’s maturing in his role and I think his defense has improved since the beginning of the year which has helped his offense.”
The Tigers play at Rockwood Summit at 7 p.m. on Jan. 24.
