The girls swimming team is having a solid season with Darcy Eisenreich (11) and Amanda Schlaker (11) being top swimmers. Eisenreich was a finalist for the 100 yard backstroke at the Rockwood Summit Invitational. The Tigers also beat their biggest rival, Eureka, at the invitational.
“That was a big win for us because they’re a great team at the top of our conference,” Alli Gannon (12) said.
One of the other surprises this year is Schlaker. She has the fastest time on the team in the 100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle, and in the 500 freestyle.
“One of our team’s goal is to get Amanda Schlaker to state,” Alex Books (10) said.
Head coach Dan Schoenfeldt said that the girls are better prepared this season for the races.
“When the girls are in the final lap, they are expected to win it,” Schoenfeldt said.
He also said that all of the girls are expected to place in the top 16 in the conference meet on Feb. 9. But he also said that placing in the top 8 would be “excellent”.
“We have a little saying that keeps us focused,” Gannon said. “Its OTSS, which stands for Only The Strong Survive.”
The Tigers next meet is Jan. 31 at Euerka at 4:30 p.m.
