The OHS tennis team beat Lindbergh in the first game of districts on My 8. They won 5-3. The number three match players Adam Pleimann (10) and Ryan Woods (12) clinched the district win.
“They had to win that match because the number one match was close and the number two match had already lost,” head coach Mrs. Linda Gebauer said.
The Tigers lost the district championship to Cape Central, 5-2. Cape beat Oakville earlier in the season, 7-2.
“We play well as a team, but we just didn’t execute today,” Alex Bergman (12) said.
Bergman competed in the district finals for individual players. If he would have won the match, he would have made it to state. He faced Tanner Morris from Kirkwood and lost the match 6-0, 6-0.
“He gave it everything he had, but it just wasn’t enough,” Gebauer said.
Despite having only three returning seniors, the Tigers won the Webster Classic, and had two medalist during districts.
“They played above expectations and I’m very pleased,” Gebauer said.
