The swim team made their way to the St. Peters Rec Plex for the 200 free relay for the final day of state competition on November 10th. The relay consisted of Denis Galic (12), Dillon Werner (12), Preston Donjon (12), and Brian Woods (12).
To make it to finals, the boys knew that they had to place in the top 16. In order to get in top 16, the boys had to drop around two seconds. After the swim, they dropped three seconds , going a time of 1 minute 31 seconds. After the events was over, the boys knew that they placed 14th and were coming back.
“I was surprised that the boys made it back. The boys didn’t qualify for state until the very last chance. I am very proud of them,” Coach Dan Schoenfeldt said.
On the night of finals, the relay team went a time of 1:32, gaining only a second for the previous night. At the end of the session, the boys walked out of the pool with a 15th place finish.
“It was fun to be there. And I know they left the pool knowing they gave all that they had,” Schoenfeldt said.
For all of their efforts, the relay team received All-State recognition from the Missouri Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association.
