OHS girls soccer played the defending State Champions, Cor Jesu, Friday night for the district title. The Tigers won in penalty kicks 1-0.
Goalie Tina Haberberger (11) played a fantastic game, stopping all of the shots that she faced. The defense also played incredible, keeping many of the Chargers’ forwards from even getting a shot on goal. After an intense 80 minutes of regular time and 30 minutes of overtime, the Tigers and the Chargers went to penalty kicks.
Gabby Korte (12), Maggie Pike (11), and Dory Kennen (11) scored the first three goals. Molly Filiput (10) scored the final and game- winning penalty kick with a shot to the right at head level.
After losing to Cor Jesu 5-0 earlier in the season, the Tigers definitely felt redeemed and excited about the win.
“It was pretty awesome,” Filiput said. “It is so exciting.”
This win gives the Tigers their first district title since 2006. The Tigers will face the Saint Joseph’s Angels tomorrow (Tuesday, May 21) at 6:00.
“I feel like we have a good chance against Saint Joe’s as long as we work hard,” said Filiput.
