Speech and Debate achieves success
Despite having a smaller, younger team, Speech and Debate has achieved consistent success.
The team finished finished strong Greater Saint Louis Speech League tournaments on Friday, Jan 16 and Saturday, Jan 17. Speech and Debate did especially well in Congressional Debates, placing second. Head coach Edward Taylor thinks the team ended on a good note, compared to last year’s results.
“We had a much bigger team last year, but we still competed exceptionally well.” said Taylor.
The GSL has tournaments beginning in October and ending in January. This was the last tournament of the league.
The team’s key performers were Ellie Sona (12) and Emma Sona (12). Emma Sona placed first in both Congressional Debates and Public Forum.
“I was really happy to win two events at the same tournament,” said Emma.
The Speech and Debate team is looking forward to beginning their next event, a tournament in Jefferson City on Jan 30 and Jan 31.
“When you have a young team, you never know what’s going to happen.” said Taylor. “This should be interesting.”
