Comfort shows are a show that can be watched over and over again without becoming repetitive. OHS students have a number of comfort shows spanning from old school to recent shows.
Seinfeld (1989-1998)
“Seinfeld” is a 90’s sitcom that aired for nine seasons. The show follows Jerry Seinfeld and his three friends, and it often coined as “the show about nothing.” However, “Seinfeld” focuses on everyday annoyances and social rules, coupled with many jokes. “Seinfeld” is Allie Kuhn’s (11) favorite show because “I grew up watching it, and it’s a sitcom, so it’s really funny, and I enjoy just, it’s not a very heavy-hearted show … There’s just always an episode that I’m like, oh, I remember watching that when I was like eight years old. It’s nostalgic.” Seinfeld can be found on Netflix.
Friends (1994-2004)
“Friends” is another 90’s sitcom that aired with 10 seasons. “Friends” follows Ross, Monica, Rachel, Phoebe, Joey and Chandler as they navigate life living in New York. “Friends” follows the friend group through hardships and obstacles, with many jokes sprinkled in. Blake Scott (10) said, “There’s lots of life lessons, and the actors are always super funny and entertaining.” “Friends” can be viewed on HBO Max.
Gilmore Girls (2000-2007)
“Gilmore Girls” is an early 2000s comedy that follows mom Lorelai Gilmore and daughter Rory Gilmore as they navigate life. The show highlights a mother-daughter bond and the ups and down of life. Vildana Korkaric (11) loves “Gilmore Girls” because “I watched it with my mom, and it being like a mother-daughter kind of relationship show just reminds me of a relationship that my mom and I have. It’s something that can always play in the background while I’m doing something, and it just gives me those fun fall vibes that I love.” The show aired with seven seasons. “Gilmore Girls” can be watched on Netflix.
Gossip Girl (2007-2012)
“Gossip Girl” is a drama series that follows a group of high school st
udents on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. Their lives are reported on by a secret blogger “Gossip Girl.” The show follows many characters including Serena van der Wilson, Blair Waldor, Dan Humphrey, Nate Archibald, Chuck Bass and more. The Gossip Girl shares personal details of their lives from high school, college and beyond. The show follows their ups and downs of life, and the drama that ensues. This is Summer Hamman’s (9) comfort show because “I just really like all the characters, and I just enjoy watching just how they all bond, and sometimes they fight, but it’s enjoyable.” “Gossip Girl” has six seasons and is available for streaming on Netflix.
Grey’s Anatomy (2005-Present)
“Grey’s Anatomy” is a medical drama that follows Meredith Grey through her years as an intern to being a surgeon. The show starts off by following Meredith, Christiana Yang, Izzie Stevens, Alex Karev and George O’Malley as they work at a hospital. The show features the grueling life that surgeons live, as well as drama that ensues in the hospital. Many rare medical anomalies and complex surgeries are performed. Josslyn Hopper

The Office (2005-2013)
“The Office” is a mockumentary sitcom series that depicts the everyday lives of workers at a paper company. The show was filmed in a way to mirror a documentary, so it does not look like you average TV show. The show follows manager Micheal Scott and temp Ryan Howard, salesman Jim Halpert, who has a massive crush on receptionist Pam Beesley though she is engaged, and many other characters that bring individual humor and personality to each episode. “The Office” is Ollie Scholz (11) comfort show because “I watched it from a younger age, so I know the characters … It’s funny and lighthearted.” “The Office” is available for streaming on Peacock.
The Walking Dead (2010-2022)
“The Walking Dead” aired for 11 seasons and follows many survivors of a post zombie apocalypse as they try to survive. They live with many threats of zombies known as “walkers.” The survivors of the apocalypse must meet with other survivors as they form groups to survive. The groups have their own laws and morals that lead to tension and conflict. Joey Kralermann (9) enjoys “The Walking Dead” because “I think it’s a really good show … And it’s just been running for so long.” It’s available for streaming on Netflix.
Outer Banks (2020-Present)
“Outer Banks” currently has four seasons, and season five is in the making. The series follows a group of friends named John B, JJ, Pope and Kiara known as “Pogues” as they are on the hunt for a $400 million treasure. John B develops a relationship with “Kook” Sarah during this time. The show follows the friend group’s up and downs, navigating life as 16-year-olds and searching for treasure. “This show is my comfort show because I’ve watched it so many times that I’m used to it, and I feel like it has a lot of action and twists and turns, and I like that,” Peyton Kern (9) said. “Outer Banks” can be streamed on Netflix.
The Rookie (2018-Present)
“The Rookie” has seven full seasons and season eight is currently airing. The show follows John Nolan who moved to LA to become a police officer in his 40s, making him the oldest rookie in the LAPD. He decided this after aiding police during a bank robbery. The show follows him as he faces challenges in the LAPD and follows his relationship with other police officers and rookies. Lucy Pfaff (9) recommends “The Rookie” because “I think if they (students) do like action shows, ‘The Rookie’ is a good choice because … it’s just really interesting and it’s funny. But it’s also serious sometimes …” The show is currently airing on ABC and can be watched the next day on HULU and Disney+.
Riverdale (2017-2023)
“Riverdale” is a moody teenage drama with seven seasons. The series opens with the death of golden boy Jason Blossom which shocks the townspeople and exposes secrets of a seemingly perfect town. The show follows a group of teenagers Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge and Jughead Jones as they navigate high school and become caught up in this mystery. As the show unfolds, secrets are revealed. Elizabeth Choi (11) enjoys “Riverdale” because “I watched it growing up, and then I just really like it because it’s a mystery and it fits my vibe.” “Riverdale” can be streamed on Netflix.
