OHS seniors answer the call of duty

While most OHS seniors are getting ready for a typical college life just a few hours from home, Lacey Dreppard (12) and Austin Leicht (12) are preparing for much more.

Dreppard received a full scholarship from the U. S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO. With only six weeks of leave per year, Dreppard will receive four years of undergraduate education before her five years of required service. She is excited to travel often and get an education that is, “beyond anything [she] would get anywhere else.”

“It’ll be hard on my family, but they’re proud,” Dreppard said.

Leicht decided to attend the U.S. Naval Academy in Maryland after attending a seminar there this past summer. His brother, a current member of the academy, originally opened up the idea to him.

“I didn’t want to sit behind a desk but still wanted a college education,” Leicht said.

Like Dreppard, Leicht will also receive four years of education and officer training before starting his five year service commitment.

Both seniors are nervous about what their futures will bring, but are anxious and excited to start the next portion of their lives.
