On April 11-12, TREND, with Student Council’s support, is working at lunches to end the “R” word at OHS.

TREND (Turning Resources and Energy into New Directions) is a club at OHS that works to make the school aware of drugs, alcohol, and other things in the lives of students. Chad Johnson (11), Student Council member, said he joined the cause and teamed up with TREND because he believes that it is appropriate to recognize this.

“I believe the “R” word is mean to the special kids and I think it is a good cause,” Johnson said.

During lunches on April 11 and 12, students will be encouraged to pledge against saying the “R” word. Any student who wishes to pledge simply signs a banner that will be laid out, and each student will receive a sticker and items provided to TREND by Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) representative Mrs. Ashley Dawson in return for pledging.
