DECA and FBLA begin clothing drive

DECA, a marketing club involved in various competitions and helpers of the school store, has a number of around 28 members this year. With Mrs. Kasper as the leader of the club, a major event in the works is their clothing drive.

DECA is holding the clothing drive in conjunction with FBLA. Students and teachers are able to donate any gently used clothing including shoes, hats, accessories and belts. 40% of the proceeds will be sent back to DECA/FBLA to help raise money for their the clubs.  The clothing can be dropped off between Sept. 14 and Oct. 22.

“So far we have had a wonderful response! We want to keep the momentum going,” said Gage Thomas (12), president of DECA and FBLA.

DECA and FBLA are hosting the clothing drive through Schoola, which is an organization that collects used clothing and raises funds for schools. The items collected will be sold either online or at Chesterfield mall for up to 70 percent off retail value. Of the money collected, 40 percent of the proceeds return directly to DECA and FBLA to be used to support students at district and state competitions.

In the first week of the clothing drive, DECA and FBLA collected five trash bags full of clothing and they hope to see many more items come in over the next few weeks. Any clothing items to be donated can be brought to Mrs. Vagners room, 106. At the end of each week, all students that donate clothing are put into a raffle for a five dollar gift card.

Meetings for DECA are held once a month in room 108 and they have been having unscheduled meetings lately. They are also always accepting new members to join the club that are enrolled in any marketing class.
