At South Tech, education goes beyond books and tests. It’s about building real-world skills for real-world success. With these hand-on learning courses, students get the opportunity to have a head start on their futures.
“This program gives the skills and tools similar to a real salon/’real’ beauty school — hands-on experience with adult clients rather than just practicing on a mannequin,”Danica Bettis (12) said. “[I’ve enjoyed] being able to meet with a salon and gain their insights as well as the opportunity to be invited to work alongside other great and experienced stylists. Other programs at South Tech work smiliary with jobs and opportunities that align with their field.”
To meet the challenges students could potentially face, South Tech offers different hands-on courses and projects to get students career ready for their respective paths. Gabe Soell (12) plans to attend the paramedic program at Jeffco after graduation, but he is getting experience with it now while still in high school.
“Through South Tech, we go on ride alongs and ride on an actual ambulance and get to treat real patients, which is a good experience to have before I start doing it in the real world,” Soell said.
With such a in-depth look into their potential future fields, students enrolled at South Tech must learn how to manage their time and course expectations.
“I focus on my home school at school and tech at home. My home school doesn’t give much homework and when it does, it’s never a lot and I can get it done within 30-40 minutes,” Natalie Chestmen (11) said. “My tech homework takes up the majority of my time, which is what I expected.”
As students learn to become better prepared for the workforce, South Tech hopes to prepare every student to confidently continue their education with a head start, turning today’s learners into tomorrow’s leaders.
“[After graduation,] I plan to go straight to a full service salon to work under a family friend who is a wonderful stylist,” Bettis said, “where I know I can learn and grow from.”
