OHS students win Novice Speech Tournament

For the first time in 14 years of competition, OHS hosted the annual Novice Speech Tournament on Friday, Jan. 9.

A Novice Speech Tournament is a competition for first year speech students. They are allowed to compete in many different areas, but students often chose one that they are the best at. They can compete through poetry, radio broadcast, humorous interpretation, and many more.

OHS had nine students compete and many received high placement.

Catherine Klocke (12) was a new speech student this year, and Speech Coach Mr. Ed Taylor projected that she would do well. Klocke joined the team this year as a senior and took home the first place prize for Prose Interpretation.

“It was a great experience to explore new talents and meet a lot of great people.” Klocke said.

Ryan Westward(9)also took first in Poetry and Aaron Mohabbat (10) won first place in humorous interpretation.
