Journalism advisor Mr. Jeff Kuchno dedicates his time to the OHS yearbook, newspaper and broadcast staffs. He was recognized nationally this week for his hard work by being awarded a Special Recognition Broadcast Adviser honor by the Journalism Education Association.

Kuchno began advising the OHS broadcast program in 2009 when it was just a club. Now it is a popular class with over double the amount of students. He has provided a strong journalism foundation for his former students and has created a lasting impression.

“I could not think of anyone more deserving of national recognition as a journalism advisor than Mr. Kuchno,” former student and current University of Missouri- Columbia Journalism student Hannah Hoffmeister said. “He handles the entire journalism program.. and has more than prepared me for the J-School.”

Kuchno will be recognized for his accomplishments on Nov. 18 at the JEA/NSPA National High School Journalism Convention in Dallas.

“This award is a reflection on the many outstanding students I have had a chance to teach,” Kuchno said. “It is truly a blessing to have the opportunity to guide students through the journey of a ‘real-life’ hands-on experience.”
