The school year may be winding down, but the upcoming band season is already starting.

On Friday, June 1, OHS Band will be performing at St. Bernadette Church Athletic Fields, which overlooks Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery. The concert will be held from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Serving as a kick-off for the 2018-2019 season, the concert takes place roughly a year before the band leaves for its trip to Normandy and Paris, France. The band hopes to inform the community about its upcoming year-long journey to France.

“It’s the start of raising awareness in the community for the trip,” said head band director Vance Brakefield

Along with OHS band, the seventh and eighth grade bands from Bernard and Oakville Middle School will be joining in on the performance.

“It will help tie everything together and allows us to interact and get everyone involved,” said Brakefield. “It gives the younger kids opportunities to play higher music that they usually don’t get to play.”

The concert is free for anyone to attend. Those interested in going to support the band, are encouraged to bring chairs, blankets, and picnic supplies for an evening filled with music.
