Tiger Tots are back!

You’d think it’s strange to hear 4 and 5 year olds in the hallway of a high school. But for the OHS students this is something they are used to everytime around this year?

The Child Development II students welcomed the Tiger Tots on April 3.

Every year child development students get the chance to work with preschoolers ages 4 to 5 to get more experience on teaching and parenting. Before they get to meet the tots, the students learn about the age groups 3 to 5 and what they like to do.

“This gives the high school students a hands-on experience and a lot of the students are planning on becoming teachers so this program really helps them,” Child Development teacher Mrs. Samantha Matoushek said.

Before spring break the high school students prepared to teach the tots about things that interest them. The program began April 3, and  runs Monday through Thursday every week until the end of the school year. Each day, one of the child development students teaches a lesson that they prepared before spring break.

“I’m really interested in working with kids, and seeing how they learn and how they approach new things they’ve never done before, it’s really fun and it helps me get the experience I need to further my career for the future” Leslie Harris (12) said.

The program goes until the end of the year. At the end of the program the (number) Tiger Tots and their teachers have a farewell celebration on May 16 to celebrate what the tots have learned.
