OHS is coming off a  34-17 victory over arch rival Mehlville last week. This Friday night, they take on Francis Howell North and with a victory, they can surpase last year’s win total.

Last year’s varsity team had a total of two wins over the entire 10-game season. This year through four games the Tigers are 2-2 and looking to make more improvements. They had a slow start to the season after a big 42-0 loss to Lindbergh, but rebounded the next week beating Marquete 28-26. Homecoming week the Tigers had a disapointing 12-6 loss to Parkway South.

One of the biggest changes to the team is at the quarterback position. Sophomore Andy Oliver took over the position after the week one loss. “It feels pretty great as long as we win,” said Oliver on playing with varsity. Coach Arlee Conners added that Oliver “brought calmness to the position.” Oliver so far through three games has 534 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.

Coach Conners atributes some of this year’s success to the senior leadership on the team and a strong defense. He also pointed out that some playing their first year of varsity have made a difference, such as sophomore Issac Dozier, who is the team’s second leading tackler.

Francis Howell North will be a tough test this week for the Tigers. Francis Howell North’s running back Terron Givans through four games has 620 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on 80 carries. It will be key for the Tigers to stop the run if they want to win their third game of the season. It also is Francis Howell North’s homecoming game so the Kinghts should be revved up for the game.
Kickoff is 7 pm.
