Running for the gold

Most people collect things such as rocks or postcards. Melissa Brown (10) collects medals.

Brown is an OHS cross country medalist who has gone undefeated in all five races this season, and her impressive best time of 18 minutes, 30 seconds is ranked fifth best in Missouri, and second in St. Louis. Brown is keeping a modest attitude and is preparing for her upcoming races.

“I am very excited,” Brown said about her success. “Placing high is what I aim for.”

Brown prepares for races by properly stretching daily, staying hydrated and eating healthy. With districts on Oct. 22 in Jackson, MO, Brown has high hopes for the race.

“I want to make it to state,” Brown said. ”And rank in the top 25.”
