Double trouble: Tennis doubles pair qualifies for sectionals

The girls tennis team celebrates senior night with their head coach Bill Ebert. Far right are Bergman and Lanfersieck.

Girls tennis districts resulted in a win for retiring seniors Abby Bergman and Carly Lanfersieck on Wednesday, October 10th.

After coming in second place as a team overall, varsity girls returned for the individual doubles tournament.

Abby Bergman (12) and Carly Lanfersieck (12) have been doubles partners all season ranked first and second on the team. They were matched against and defeated Cape Central in the first round. They moved on and defeated Jackson in the second round, and finally beat Farmington to win it all.

“It felt amazing because we had lost to that team the night before so it made winning that day even more great,” Bergman said.

Not only have the girls been working together their senior year to get to this point, but also all of highschool together. Playing together for four years straight has made the girls closer than ever.

“It felt great winning with my best friend who I’ve been playing with for four years. It’s all payed off.” Lanfersieck and Bergman both agreed.

These determined seniors will be back on the courts on Tuesday, October 15th to compete in sectionals against Lafayette.
