Jarad Wahl (11) and Chad Elking (11) cheer on their teammates at their meet on Sept. 5 against CBC and Washington.

The OHS boys swim team dove into this season lacking one major thing: seniors.

Five seniors graduated last year, so the swim team knew that others would have to step up this season as leaders. However, under the coaching of Mr. Dan Schoenfeldt, the team is determined to have a successful fall.

“Last year we had people to look up to,” swimmer Chad Elking (11) said.  “This year we are the ones who are getting looked up at.”

Six juniors currently swim for OHS, but since the team is composed of mostly underclassmen, every swimmer has had to share the responsibility of working to achieve success this season. They do not have designated team captains.

“We just have to step up,” Vito Cammarata (11) said, “and lead by work ethic.”

The swim team will compete at Mehlville against Parkway South on Sept. 16 at 4:30 p.m.
