Freshman girls basketball loses first game of the season

The freshman girls basketball team lost their undefeated record of 8-0 in their game against Lindbergh on Jan. 19. Their record is now 8-1.

The game started out slow and ended with the girls trying to push for the win. The score at halftime was tied 6-6, but the team fell behind in the later quarters, finishing the game with a loss of 14-16.

“Not handling the defensive pressure is what lost us the game. I think that we didn’t come out believing we were the better team. We came out slow, and let the other team dictate how we play,” said Coach Maggie Zehner.

The girls were heartbroken that they lost their first game of the season.

“We didn’t play our hardest and we only put effort into the end. We could’ve won but we just didn’t have the heart to and that’s okay. We’ll get the next one,” said Kiley Hurford (9).

Despite the loss, the team remains confident that they will know what to do for the next game. Coach Zehner said the girls are going to work on ball pressure defense.
