Katie Leeker (12) goes to head butt the ball during her senior night game against Marquette on May,11. Unfortunately the Tigers fell short to the Mustangs 2-1.

One OHS student has been recognized for her efforts on and off the field. Three-sport athlete Katie Leeker’s (12) hard work has paid off.

Every year for the past 55 years, the St. Louis Post Dispatch picks a student from each high school in the St. Louis area who has excelled in not only their athletics, but their schooling as well, to be a scholar athlete. Katie Leeker is this year’s pick for OHS.

“I was excited when I found out,” said Leeker. “It’s rewarding to know that my hard work from athletes and academics has been shown together.”

Leeker played basketball for OHS her freshman and sophomore year ,and swam her junior and senior, all while playing soccer and field hockey every year she spent at OHS.

“I put in so much time and dedication over the past four years to be the best athlete I could be while maintaining good grades,” said Leeker. “I’ve put so much into being successful in a classroom and being a leader in the school, so for them to recognize that was everything. ”
