Cinderella dances to the top

Bibbidi-Bobbidi-Boo! The new Cinderella movie is now in theaters near you!

The new live action Cinderella came to theaters March 13 and earned $67,877,361 on opening weekend, ranking it first in the box office.

The movie features Lily James as Cinderella, Richard Madden as Prince Charming, Helena Bonham Carter as the Fairy Godmother, and Cate Blanchett as the evil stepmother.

Cinderella is a live action remake of Disney’s 1950 classic Cinderella and followed the original relatively well. My mom and I went on opening day to go see the new Cinderella since we both have always loved Disney movies.

Unlike in other recent live-action Disney movies such as Maleficent, the movie follows the traditional plot of the mother dying, dad remarrying to an evil woman with two daughters, the fairy godmother helping Cinderella make it to the ball, and the prince falling in love with Cinderella. There were only a few small differences that didn’t really change the plot.

The only differences I found were that there was a lot more emphasis on the parents’ death than in the original. Also, the animals were not able to talk since this movie isn’t a cartoon. Which seems obvious, but it is a little disappointing.

Overall, the movie was really well made. It makes you cry, it makes you happy, and maybe will even make you a little inspired.
