Thousands of students tried out for the All-State Band and Orchestra on Dec. 2 at Hickman High School in Columbia, MO. For the second year in a row, two OHS students made it.

Six members of the OHS band auditioned for All-State. Conrad Bucholtz (12) and Colin Akers (10) made it in the orchestra and band respectively. Both are returners from last year.

“It’s great to be back,” said Bucholtz.

While in the band last year, Bucholtz is now in the orchestra on trumpet. “I got the first part, and I have to work really hard to know it, because it’s one of the most exposed.”

Along with the two returners, Lauren Zygmont (12) and Karissa May (12) were given honorable mention.

“I worked with my private teacher and practiced several hours a week,” said May. “This year around 200 clarinets tried out. This is my third year trying out, and I’m happy to finally make something.”

The All-State band and orchestra will perform at the Missouri Music Educators Association conference at the Lake of the Ozarks on Jan. 27.
