Bell time causes confusion

Bell time causes confusion
HANDOUT

Rumor has it that the bell at OHS rings at 2:07 p.m. this year.  But  this is false.  The bell rings at 2:05 p.m. as usual.

Some students said that the bell ringing at 2:07 p.m. all year would add up to one school day by the end of the year.  This bell schedule would make it so students would not  have to go an extra day if they had a snow day.

“The bell rings at 2:05 p.m. as always,” secretary Mrs. Patricia Kappel said. “Although I have noticed it has rang late before.”

Some students are still skeptical about the bell ringing at 2:05 p.m..

“I have looked at my watch that reads 2:07 p.m., while the clock on the wall reads 2:05 p.m.,” Megan Walsh (11) said. “But if the office says that it rings at 2:05 p.m., I believe them.”

Some teachers say a reason the bell could be running late, is that when the clocks “fall back” and “spring forward”, the clocks stop, reset, and then begin to move again.  Clocks do not always hit the exact minute, causing them to fall a minute or two short, and ring late.
