OHS girls soccer plays for district championship

After beating Fox in the opening round of the district tournament, the OHS girls soccer team beat second seeded Rockwood Summit Monday night, 2-1. The third seeded Tigers will play number one seed Cor Jesu on Wednesday, May 16 at 6 p.m. at Mehlville High School.

Ashley Burton (12) has led the Tigers so far in the district tournament, posting two goals in a 4-0 win over Fox, and another goal in the semi final game against Rockwood Summit. This season, she has a team high 21 goals, and ranks among the top scorers in St. Louis.

“We pulled out a big win over Summit,” Burton said. “It was a total team effort. There’s so many good teams in our district this year, we can’t take anyone for granted.”

OHS and Cor Jesu have met prior to Wednesday in a game that resulted in a 2-0 loss for the Tigers. Despite that rough performance, many of the players think they can learn from that loss, and play a better game Wednesday night.

“It’s going to be fun,” Burton said. “We want to come out strong and set the tone early.”
