The varsity volleyball team stands in a huddle during their game on Friday, Aug. 22. The team played Francis Howell for their first home game.

Girls volleyball is setting up for a comeback after a strong performance this weekend.

The team competed in the Gateway Tournament on Sept. 19 and 20, hosted at OHS. After a tough loss to Lindbergh in three games on the previous Tuesday, they were ready to rally and contend with some of the strongest teams in the area.

In their first day of tournament play, the Tigers competed in four matches; every point mattered, as the girls never had to play a third game in any of their Friday matches. The girls beat DuBourg and Parkway South but lost to Cor Jesu and Villa Duchesne.

Saturday brought three more matches. OHS beat Washington and lost to Rosati-Kain and Villa Duchesne. The team finished 4th in the silver bracket.

“We played good, but we can always play better,” said Abbie Dorsam (12).

The Tigers currently hold a record of 5-12 and will take on Seckman at home at 6 p.m. on Oct. 1.

“I know we have the potential,” setter Madison AuBuchon (11) said, “to do really well the rest of the season.”
