This year, OHS Varsity Softball has the second youngest team Richard Sturm has coached in his 14 years as Head Coach, and if these girls are anything like his 2002 team of young players, the 2015 team is going places.

Eight of the fifteen players on the 2015 varsity team are underclassmen, 4 being freshmen. The starting lineup consists of 6 players who have never started on varsity before; however, if the girls are feeling any pressure due to inexperience, the Tigers’ 6-1 record and second place finish in the Rockwood Summit tournament certainly do not show it.

The wins certainly have the team excited, but how does the coaching staff feel? Sturm is looking forward to what the rest of the season has to offer, and said the team “has a strong will to succeed and do things the right way.”

Hopefully, this young team will rise up to the standards set by Sturm’s youngest lineup, which went on to make it to State Final Four two years in a row.
Sturm compared the two teams saying they reminded him of each other and called both “young, coachable, and extremely hard working.”

They play next in the Jefferson City Tournament.
