Football upsets Fox; first edition of the Black and Gold Show

Tigers make their record .500 with win against Fox. The Black and Gold Show is a sports pregame show written and produced by Madeline Jones and Hannah Hoffmeister.

The varsity football team hopes to raise their record to above .500 against Northwest tonight after beating Fox last Friday at Fox’s homecoming game. OHS scored first at the end of the first quarter and never gave up its lead, winning 22-13 after the score got within a point in the third quarter.

“I thought our guys battled,” head coach Arlee Conners said. “I’m proud of my guys because they persevered. …They kept finding ways to climb back in there and grind it out.”

OHS had better kicking against Fox; Armin Topalovic (11) kicked both of the extra points, and co-quarterback Kobe Allen (12) ran for a two-point conversion in the middle of the fourth quarter to make it a two-score game.

Both of Fox’s touchdowns were running touchdowns, including a 93-yard touchdown in the third quarter.

“I thought third quarter we came out flat a little bit,” Conners said. “Every game we’ve played this year, we’ve gone to the halftime with the lead. We come out of the halftime, guys kinda get a little satisfied with what they’ve done and don’t understand the need to keep pushing forward. That’s something we’re working on, but I’d say today was definitely better.”

The Tigers play Northwest tonight at home at 7 p.m. Northwest is 1-3 this season. With the Tigers’ win against Fox, their record is now 2-2.
