Wilke receives $1,000 scholarship
The Elks Club presents scholarships each year to students from several South County high schools. This year the OHS scholarship was awarded to Chloe Wilke.
The high schools the Elks Club looks at are Mehlville, Oakville, Hancock, and Notre Dame. One student is awarded the title per school. The Elks Club’s goal is to honor the principles of charity, justice, fidelity, and service.
“I didn’t apply for it, but I was sitting in class when Dr. Gross (Senior Counselor) came down and she let me know that the teachers voted me a student of the year.” Wilke said. “Teachers were asked to nominate a student who they thought was the student of the year. I’m not sure if there was something that I specifically did, but I think it was based on what I do in class and the work that I do outside of school in clubs.”
Wilke is involved in a lot throughout the school. During her time at OHS, she’s been involved in French Club, Student Council, band, A+ Tutoring, French Honor Society, Science National Honor Society, Games Club, Civics Club, Art Club, Cadet Teaching, and in six AP classes.
“It’s for whichever school I want to go to. It’s just toward tuition,” she said. She wants to go to Truman State to major in either Biochemistry or physics.
“I’m just really happy my work got noticed,” Wilke said.
