Quiz Bowl goes undefeated

The Academic Quiz Bowl went undefeated and placed first at Districts for the fifth year in a row on Saturday, April 18.

Throughout the year, Quiz Bowl attends various tournaments and the entry is always a first come first serve basis. The variety of the teams they compete against consists of different classes and districts throughout the state of Missouri. Oakville is class four. Districts consisted of four teams: OHS, Seckman, Northwest, and Mehlville.

At Districts, four people sub in at a time. Questions are asked and whoever buzzes in first with the correct answer gets a point. Oakville excelled and came out on top for the fifth year in a row. However, one certain member, Iain Bennett, proved his value to the team.

“Iain has demonstrated great promise as a player. He often medals at tournaments we attend,” Mrs. Christina Whelehon, Quiz Bowl sponsor, said. “I can’t wait to see how he performs next year!”

Bennett is a junior at OHS and scored more points than anyone else in the competition. He placed first in individual stats.

“It felt really good winning. The past two years, Michael Menkhus blew everyone out of the water and now I know how he felt,” Bennett said.

Sectionals will be held Wednesday, April 29th. Ten members of Oakville’s team will be competing against Farmington High School.
