Boys Volleyball falls to defending state champ

The Oakville boys Varsity Volleyball team suffered a loss in two games to Vianney Wednesday(April 9), 25-13, 25-20

Following Vianneys Class 3 State Championship last season, they moved up to Class 4. They are still considered one of the best teams in the St. Louis area.

“Vianney is a tough team,” said senior hitter Ryan Killoren. “I’m not happy about the loss, but I think we found what we need to improve on. In a way the loss fired us up as a team.”

In the first game, Oakville seemed to be making a lot of mental errors. Missed serves and bad passes attributed to the first loss.

However, in the second game, the Tigers picked up their defensive efforts to keep the game close, yet fell to the Griffins 25-20.

“I think in the second game, we realized that they weren’t as good as we thought they were,” said senior Nick Slama. “We definitely picked up our defense, and got more of our serves to go in.”

The Tigers then went on to beat Eureka on Thursday (April 10). The team will take on Lafayette next Thursday (April 17).
