As the 2011-2012 school years begins to wind down, the administration has decided to make some changes in the foreign language department.
Next year, there will be an additional spanish 5 class available for advanced students who have completed Spanish 4. This class will be a dual credit through the Universtiy of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL). Spanish 5 will be a college level course that covers mainly literature, short stories, plays, and poetry, and will be taught by Mrs. Carol Robinson.
“This class is going to be a big benefit for the students that partake in it,” Spanish teacher Mrs. Robinson said. “This class will give students a more solid foundation before they get to college, and will not only increase their reading and writing skills, but also their speaking and listening skills.”
In addition, French 3 and 4 will be a combined class next year. The reason for this is because enrollment is down for both French 3 and 4. Since the French 3 students aren’t as advanced as the 4s, they will occasionally receive different assignments. The class will cover history, literature, art, and music, and will be taught by Ms. Keri Wilson.
“The situation isn’t exactly ideal, the good news is that there are a ton of French 2s,” Ms. Wilson said. “So hopefully all those students will stay in the program. Eventually I hope we can have a French 5 class.”
