Oftentimes high school students are on the lookout for their next caffeine stop. This past weekend I visited two Oakville coffee shops, Cove Cafe and Cafe Fleur de Lis and reviewed a few of their items.
Cafe Fleur de Lis
Atmosphere 5/5:
When walking in you immediately get hit with a warm and cozy ambiance. With comfortable seating and family friendly climate, Cafe Fleur de Lis makes you feel right at home. The staff is friendly and completes the overall vibe.
Food 5/5:
Cafe Fleur de Lis has a very extensive menu. It serves as a breakfast restaurant as well as a coffee shop. Their menu includes their signature crepes and various breakfast sandwiches. They also display an array of desserts to purchase. These include macaroons, cheesecake slices and other danishes.
Vanilla Frappuccino 5/5:
From my experience frappuccinos have been very sweet, sometimes too sweet. But not this one. Their frappuccino had a perfect balance of vanilla bean and coffee. It was thin and creamy with a slight blend of ice. It’s the perfect drink when in need of a sweet treat.
Pumpkin Spice Latte 3/5 :
This warmed seasonal favorite was the perfect mix of frothy and smooth. The drink had a strong pull toward nutmeg, and a slight pull away from the pumpkin. The spice was at times too overbearing, but overall it was a festive treat and coffee shop delicacy.
White Chocolate Raspberry Iced Latte 3/5:
This is my personal favorite flavor combination, but here it is their own special called the ‘Love Potion.’ The drink was sweet and full of flavor. The raspberry flavoring was included in the drink and also added as a syrup on the side. With both components of flavor it did overpower the white chocolate flavor. Overall, it was delicious.
Cove Cafe
Atmosphere 5/5:
The inside of Cove Cafe is bright and modern. With the hum of conversation and the whir of the espresso machine, it created a vivid and rich environment. Even with having a smaller space it was filled with cozy seating and vibrant decor. The service was very fast and the staff was very kind.
Food 4/5:
With Cove not being a restaurant their food is limited, but not completely erased. They have a small selection of prepackaged treats, including colorful cake pops, assorted muffins and tasty pastries.
Vanilla Frappuccino (latte) 4/5:
While I was hoping to make a direct comparison, unfortunately Cove Cafe does not serve blended drinks. So instead, I was graced with a classic latte. The drink was silky and slightly sweet. The flavor was minimal but effective for a satisfying sip. The drink served as a comforting treat and a perfect pick me up.
Pumpkin Spice Latte 4/5:
This autumnal staple was served hot and ready. With a perfect blend of pumpkin and spicy cinnamon, this drink soars through the taste buds. The drink was creamy and frothy without losing the spicy flavor. It was a comforting seasonal treat.
White Chocolate Raspberry Iced Latte 5/5:
While this has been my favorite flavor combination for a long time, Cove Cafe has been the first to perfect it. They delivered a perfect blend between the two flavors and did so with grace. The drink is sweet and subtle with a slight tanginess from the raspberry to make it pop.
Overall, both coffee shops were delicious and shined in their own ways. If you are looking for a great cup of coffee and very fast service, I would recommend Cove cafe. If you are looking for a delicious breakfast or a blended drink, I would recommend Cafe Fleur de Lis.
