Students accepted awards at Academic Achievement Night.

On May 4 seniors were awarded for their accomplishments throughout their high school years.

OHS faculty and staff recognized and awarded seniors who had earned between a 3.0 and 4.0 grade point average (GPA). The ceremony was held in gym A at OHS and also included awards from departments, scholarships, and other recognition.

“Each school department gives an award to one or two students,” OHS Principal Mrs. Jan Kellerman said, “We also had specific scholarships given to specific people.”

For instance, National Merit Scholarships finalists were recognized: Iain Bennett, Abby Menkus, Madelyn Reinagel and Caroline Tank. There were also some special recognition given to students such as, 4-year and 3 sport athlete given to Josh Kuntze, and a gold medal for Best Book Series (Chapter Book) at the 2015 Moonbeam Children’s Book for her five-book “Dream Ring Series” given to Hannah Hoffmeister.

The department awards included the business award given to Kevin Mitchell, the English language award to Yueping Wei and Hannah Hoffmeister, the mathematics award given to Bryan McClure, the physical education award to Sophie Nelms, the science award to Jenna Chase, and the Project Lead The Way award given to Joshua Bast and Elizabeth Vancil.

“I felt honored that they [OHS administration] gave us an awards night because it showed that my hard work paid off,” said OHS student Christine Copeland (12).
